Real Talk: This Week Wasn’t So Bad

bowl of flowersHey guys.  How’s it going?  I felt like doing a really casual post to chat and check in on myself a little, so I am!  No links or “content,” just babbling.

Anywho, I think I’m in a story telling mood because I had one of those weeks where I was feeling like it was the worst week ever but really it wasn’t at all, not even close, but you know how that goes when you’re in the heat of things and need a little help getting a dose of perspective.

What am I talking about?  I’m talking about how I dropped my phone in the toilet HAHA.  I swear I can’t go a year without breaking or losing my phone.  I did everything I was supposed to: turned it off, let it dry in front of a fan for almost two days, and everything works fine except the phone won’t connect to the cellular network.  Why yes, that is the most important part.

After spending an entire day driving back and forth between Verizon and Apple (it was a total of five times with the Genius Bar having me wait a few hours to make appointments geez.  Does the whole “fool me twice shame on me” thing apply to this because it really feels like my fault), each party blaming the other for the issue and dealing with some rude people, I was still without a fully functioning phone at the end of the day.  What made this worse is a story that sounds totally unrelated but it is related.

Earlier this week at one of my regular classes at the gym, the trainer made us do a bajillion situps on the hard floor without a mat.  I thought I got through it pretty well, but when I got home I noticed my tailbone was bleeding.  It was chafed to the BONE.  Is this TMI??  HAHA too late!  From then on, I’ve been in pain.  Anytime I sit or move, it hurts, so it’s been tough trying to focus and get work done.  Definitely an off week.

So, I’m running back and forth trying to get someone to fix my phone, my tailbone is on fire, and I can’t help but be extra irritable.  I was frustrated that I wasn’t getting any blog work done, that I let my stupid phone take up an entire day, and that I couldn’t just sit and relax without any pain.  When I got home from my final unsuccessful trip to Apple that day, I let out a good cry while I told my guy the whole story (embarrassing) and took a moment afterwards to think the following thoughts:

I’m grateful for my body and that I’m healthy enough to workout in ways that I really enjoy, even if that means parts of me might get chafed sometimes.  I’m also super grateful that I have the freedom to take a day to handle personal matters and errands, a result of getting to work a job I love.  Finally, it’s just a phone.  Things that can be replaced by buying a new one are the lowest problems to have.  It’s also no secret I can afford to spend less time on my phone, so suck it up girl, you can wait.

As part of my efforts to continually return to a heart of gratitude, especially in the stupidest of moments, I’m feeling waayyy better and totally didn’t cry what are you talking about.

Extremely ready for a really exciting weekend ahead that I’ve been looking forward to for a while.  Some friends have this Monday off for President’s Day so we planned a long weekend trip to stay in a barn in the middle of nowhere.  Yes!  There will be animals, and there will be nearby wineries so we’ll be going on a tasting tour.  For sure will be Snapchatting (@homeyohmy) if I have a new phone by then, and if not, I’ll be Snapchatting when there’s wifi for me to connect to haha.

Thanks for reading my weird recap of the week.  Happy weekend, Happy Valentine’s Day (I love you guys), and see you here next week <3.

  1. I don’t have my blog up and running yet but I love browsing through others for inspo and this post really reminds me of one that i wrote the other day. We all have bad days but the point is to realize you actually have it good. I enjoyed the story and glad I could relate.

  2. I’m so sorry you had a rough week! I know that happens whether we like it or not. It was a doozy for me, as well. It’s great that you have a positive attitude about it and can put things in perspective. Cheers to a better week next week!! xoxo

    1. Sorry to hear your week wasn’t the best either. They’re bound to happen more often than we’d like! Hoping things turn around for you as well, Kim <3

  3. Go have a great weekend! Just a few thoughts though. I would show my instructor my tail bone and tell him/her NEVER AGAIN. Next, I heard some women fussing about Winter the other day. The cold, the this, the that. I NEVER speak to others conversations, however, this time I did. I turned and said, “Girls, it’s only weather. Did you wake up this morning? Are you fairly healthy? Does your husband/other love you? Do you have kids?” The reasons for being content, at least, are too many to name. The point is: if you look for a blessing each day, Spring comes before you know it!! I am proud of your attitude! How a great upcoming week. Didn’t mean to write so much.

    1. Hahaha yea if I’m caught in another class that has me do that again I will adamantly decline. My tailbone STILL isn’t healed!
Love the way you put it. Positivity is the best thing we can do for ourselves, and each other! Thanks for leaving me your thoughts, Linda!

  4. I had my phone eaten by a tidal wave in Hawaii. I didn’t know at the time, but you can just take it to the apple store and they’ll replace it for $300. Not ideal, but also not as expensive as the phone itself. Good luck! Being phoneless can be a real bummer.

    1. Tidal wave, geez. I was prepared to pay that $300 but the person helping me this final time was able to get me a new phone for free!! I’m convinced she must’ve just been extra nice?? Completely turned my week around, so grateful. Thanks for your well wishes, Jillian!

  5. My husband had phone problems this week too…and this usually uber-positive man was just totally stressed out about it. So, I feel your pain. Glad you got it figured out. Don’t be too hard on yourself–it is hard work to always stay in a state of gratitude! Happy Valentine’s Day!

    1. Aah, your empathy is extremely comforting, Kristine. Thank you so much. Hope you had a beautiful weekend and Valentine’s Day!

  6. I’ve just started following your blog and I love it! And it’s so nice to read about you as well. So sorry to hear that you had a bad week! Hope enjoyed your weekend and still having fun petting animals and sipping wine today :)

  7. Oh my….at least you could honestly say that you were working your butt off! :) Hope your feeling better! Tough times are always better through the rear-view mirror (no rear puns intended!).

    1. Hahaha you’re on fire, Laura. And so is my rear… A sense of humor is the best for getting through tough times, thanks for the reminder!

  8. You’re so cute, Amy. I love this rambly post. And it’s so true! I get irritable and self-pitying over the smallest things sometimes. I’m trying to learn to be more grateful everyday…it’s definitely a work in progress.

Hope your tailbone is feeling better! xo

    1. Aww, thanks girl <3. A state of gratitude is always a happier way to be, but I totally get caught up in the bonding that can happen over commiserating. I think that's healthy too, to at least connect with others that fall into the same pits, but getting out of that definitely takes work!
